Topics include creole patriotism, the Enlightenment and Latin America, the growth of antislavery sentiment and the emergence of Dessalines, Bolívar, Hidalgo, and Morelos as leaders of independence movements. Explores the destabilizing battles between conservatives and liberals in the newly created nations focussing on Argentina, Colombia, México and Perú.
