Description

Examines the ideas of the French Enlightenment and their impact during the French Revolution and Napoleonic eras. Topics include political reform and democracy, social and economic equality, religious toleration, gender, abolitionism and criminal justice. Considers Enlightenment-era sociability and dissemination of radical ideas to both future revolutionaries and to the population as a whole.
