Description

Examines the various ways in which people of different cultures and backgrounds residing in the former colonies of France have recreated the forms of the French language in order to fulfill their own communicative needs. Highlights the vitality of this language by pointing out how it has adapted to specific circumstances in Africa, the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean and Asia. Where relevant, includes language policies and attitudes.

  • Students enrolled in a major or honours degree in French are required to submit their papers in French. Other students may submit their papers in English.
  • May be offered as a joint undergraduate and graduate class.
