Description

Surveys 20th- and 21st-century literature in English from Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, Africa and Australasia, among other places. Introduces students to postcolonial criticism and theory and to debates about the relations between more and less powerful literary nations. Authors may include Chinua Achebe, Nadine Gordimer, Wole Soyinka, Derek Walcott, Jamaica Kincaid, Salman Rushdie, V. S. Naipaul, Vikram Seth, Janet Frame, Peter Carey and Keri Hulme.
